It may not blink again unless Bluetooth is actively in use. {% endhint %} {% hint style="warning" %} **Note:** We do not guarantee successful setup or proper operation of the dongle on Hackintosh systems (non-Apple hardware running macOS). {% endhint %} ## **If the devices still do not connect after following the instructions above, try the following:** Try the following steps: 1. Unplug the dongle. 2. Turn off Bluetooth on your Mac. 3. Plug in the dongle. 4. Wait 15 seconds. 5. Turn Bluetooth back on. 6. Try the Following Solutions ### **1. Reset the Bluetooth Module** 1. Close all running applications. 2. Hold **Shift + Option**, then click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar. 3. Select **Reset Bluetooth Module**. 4. Reboot your Mac. 5. Reconnect your Bluetooth devices (note: all previous pairings will be removed). ### **2. Delete Bluetooth Settings Files** 1. Open **Finder**. 2. Press **Command + Shift + G**. 3. Navigate to: **/Library/Preferences/** 4. Delete the following files if present: * `com.apple.Bluetooth.plist` * `com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile` 5. Reboot your Mac and reconfigure your Bluetooth devices. ### **3. Wake up after sleeping mode If you're having trouble reconnecting devices or waking your Mac using Bluetooth peripherals on Sonoma: Run the following command in **Terminal**: ```bash defaults -currentHost write com.apple.Bluetooth RemoteWakeEnabled 1 ``` {% hint style="info" %} **Note:** If your AirPods are not in the case when the Mac wakes up, they may not connect automatically—you’ll need to manually select them from the Bluetooth device list. {% endhint %} ### **5. Post-Reboot or Shutdown Reconnection Issues** To improve device reconnection after shutdown or reboot: 1. Go to **Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security → FileVault**. 2. Click **Turn Off FileVault** → **Turn Off Encryption**. **Alternative method to disable FileVault via Terminal:** 1. Open Terminal and run the command: ```shellscript sudo fdesetup disable ``` 2. After this, the Dongle and connected devices will be automatically available right after macOS starts ### **7. If Music Playback or Input Devices Lag or Drop Connection** 1. Turn off Wi-Fi on your Mac. This will help identify whether interference is causing the issue. 2. If Wi-Fi interference is confirmed: * Move the Mac away from the router. * Use a wired Ethernet connection if possible. * Switch your router to a **5 GHz** frequency instead of **2.4 GHz**. ### **8. Don’t uninstall the Bluetooth management software in the last step! {% endhint %} For other Linux distributions, you’ll need to install the BlueZ Bluetooth stack and the BlueMan Bluetooth Manager. Consult your distribution’s website to see if the Bluez and Blueman software are available as a ready-to-install software package. #### **Turning on Bluetooth** 1. Plug in the Bluetooth adapter 2. Click the Bluetooth Icon in the toolbar 3. Click turn on Bluetooth #### **Connecting a Device** 1. Click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar and select Set Up New Device. 2. Make the other Bluetooth device [discoverable or visible](https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/ubuntu-help/bluetooth-visibility.html) and place it within 20 meters (about 65 feet) of your computer. Click Continue. Your computer will begin searching for devices. 3. If there are too many devices listed, use the Device type drop-down to display only a single type of device in the list. 4. Click the PIN option to set how a PIN will be delivered to the other device. 5. The automatic PIN setting will use a six-digit numerical code. A device with no input keys or screen, such as a mouse or headset, may require a specific PIN such as 0000, or no PIN at all. Check your device’s manual for the proper setting. 6. Choose an appropriate PIN setting for your device, then click Close. 7. Click Continue to proceed. If you did not choose a preset PIN, the PIN will be displayed on the screen. 8. If required, confirm the PIN on your other device. The device should show you the PIN you see on your computer screen or may prompt you to enter the PIN. Confirm the PIN on the device, then click Matches.\ \ You need to finish your entry within about 20 seconds on most devices, or the connection will not be completed. If that happens, return to the device list and start again.
9. A message appears when the connection successfully completes. Click Close. #### **Set Playback Devices** 1. Click the Speaker icon on the toolbar and select Audio Setup 2. Select the Audio Hardware Setup Tab 3. Click the Profile drop-down box and select Off ## KDE and GNOME The KDE and GNOME desktop environments provide Bluetooth configuration and management utilities. If not installed by default, you will need to install them with your Linux distribution’s package manager. Debian, Linux, Ubuntu, and Ubuntu derivatives usually have the Bluez Bluetooth stack installed by default along with a Bluetooth manager. We recommend opening a terminal window and typing the following command to install the necessary packages: ``` sudo apt-get install bluez blueman ``` If the packages are already installed, apt-get will report that the packages are already present on your system. Connect the External Bluetooth Dongle** * **Plug in the Bluetooth adapter** The Bluetooth adapter indicator should appear on your screen, indicating that the external dongle is active and ready for use. * **Click the Bluetooth Icon in the toolbar** * **Click turn on Bluetooth** * **Adding Devices**: Use the Bluetooth button in the upper right corner of the screen. ### Pairing Bluetooth devices via Hideez Dongle on Linux Mint 21.3 "Virginia" {% embed url="" %} **Alternative Method of pairing via Command Line** 1. **Launch the Utility**: ``` bluetoothctl ``` 2. **View Available Devices**: ``` devices ``` 3. **Pair the Device**: ``` pair ``` 4. **Establish the Connection**: ``` connect ``` # Disabling the Internal Bluetooth ## **Disabling the Internal** Bluetooth: **Step 1: Identify the Bluetooth Device ID** * Open the terminal. * Enter the following command to list your USB devices: ```bash lsusb ``` * You will see a list of connected devices similar to the example below (your list will differ)

BCM2046B1 USB 2.0 Hub with the vendor **ID `0a5c`** and product **ID `4500`**. {% endhint %} **Step 2: Create a Udev Rule to Disable the Internal Bluetooth Device** * Create a new file named `81-bluetooth-hci.rules` in the `/etc/udev/rules.d` directory by running the following command in the terminal: ```bash sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/81-bluetooth-hci.rules ``` * Add the following content to the file, replacing `0a5c` and `4500` with the vendor ID and product ID of your internal Bluetooth device: ``` SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0a5c", ATTRS{idProduct}=="4500", ATTR{authorized}="0" ``` Make sure to save the file by pressing `Ctrl+X`, then `Y`, and `Enter`. **Step 3: Reboot the Computer** * Restart your computer to apply the changes. ``` sudo reboot ``` After rebooting, the internal Bluetooth device should be disabled. {% hint style="info" %} **Now you can come back to the previous step and configure Hideez Dongle as an external Bluetooth adapter.** {% endhint %} # Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon Setting up Hideez USB Bluetooth Dongle on Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon This guide explains how to use a USB Bluetooth dongle on Linux Mint when the computer does not have built-in Bluetooth, the internal Bluetooth adapter is not working properly, or you are using a desktop PC. ### 1. Insert the Bluetooth Dongle Plug the USB Bluetooth dongle into an available USB port on the computer. It is recommended to connect the dongle directly to the PC rather than through a USB hub. {% hint style="info" %} Note: In many cases, Linux Mint automatically detects the USB Bluetooth dongle and shows it in the Bluetooth settings menu immediately after it is connected. If the dongle appears automatically and works correctly, running Terminal commands is not required. Commands such as `lsusb`, `hciconfig`, and `bluetoothctl` are only needed for troubleshooting if the dongle is not detected or does not work properly. {% endhint %} ### 2. Check Whether Linux Detects the Dongle Open Terminal and run: ```bash lsusb ``` You should see your Bluetooth dongle listed among the USB devices. Example:

### 4. Open Bluetooth Settings Open the application menu and go to: Settings → Bluetooth Make sure Bluetooth is enabled. Your USB dongle should appear as the active Bluetooth adapter. ### 5. Pair a Device Turn on Bluetooth on the device you want to connect, such as: * phone * headset * speaker * mouse * keyboard In Bluetooth settings: 1. Click Search or Scan.
2. Select the device from the list.
3. Click Pair. 4. Confirm the pairing code if required. ### 6. Pair Devices Through Terminal (Optional) To pair a device through Terminal: ```bash bluetoothctl ``` Then run: ```bash power on agent on default-agent scan on ``` Wait until your device appears. Choose a power supply recommended by the manufacturer with sufficient power to avoid issues with connected devices. 2. **Resource Usage**: When working via Bluetooth, Raspberry Pi actively uses device resources (memory, processor). If resources are insufficient, device response to events may degrade (long connection times, pauses in music playback, etc.). {% endhint %} # How to use Hideez Bluetooth Dongle on Chromebook {% hint style="info" %} **Tested on:** * Acer Chromebook CP311-3H (ARM Cortex-A53, Model *jacuzzi*, Board *juniper*), * Google ChromeOS version 142.0.7444.220 (Official Build) (64-bit) {% endhint %} ## Switching to the External Bluetooth Dongle ### **Step 1:** Plug the USB Bluetooth dongle into a USB port. This allows the Chromebook to detect an external Bluetooth adapter. ### **Step 2:** Open Chrome and type *chrome://flags* in the address bar. This page contains experimental system settings, including Bluetooth stack options.
### **Step 3:** Find the flag **“Use Floss instead of BlueZ”.** Floss is the newer Bluetooth stack; disabling it forces the system to fall back to BlueZ, which works better with external dongles.
### **Step 4:** Set this flag to **Disable**. Disabling the flag ensures ChromeOS won’t override the external adapter with Floss.
### **Step 5:** Click **Reset** to reboot the Chromebook. A restart is required for the Bluetooth system to reload with the new configuration.
### **Step 6:** After a restart, open the Bluetooth menu near the clock. This lets you confirm the Bluetooth system is active and ready to detect hardware. ### **Step 7:** Turn Bluetooth **off**, then **on** again. Toggling Bluetooth forces ChromeOS to reinitialize the adapter list.
{% hint style="warning" %} If the dongle does not activate immediately, try restarting the Chromebook again.\ Some ARM-based Chromebooks require an additional reboot before switching fully to the external Bluetooth adapter. {% endhint %} ### **Step 8:** Click **“Pair new device”.** Your dongle should begin glowing blue, indicating it has started scanning for Bluetooth devices. This confirms that the external dongle is now the default Bluetooth adapter.
## **Switch Back to the Internal Bluetooth Module** 1. Unplug the Bluetooth dongle from the USB port. 2. Restart your Chromebook. 3. Open the Bluetooth menu near the clock. 4. Turn Bluetooth **off**, then **on** again. 5. Click **“Pair new device”.** Your Chromebook will automatically return to the internal Bluetooth module if it is functioning properly.
